Biobanking Assessments and BioBanking Statements
As Accredited BioBanking Assessors we provide Biobanking Assessments and BioBanking Statements under the NSW Biobanking Scheme through the NSW Office of Environment and Heritage. We assist both developers and landholders in BioBanking. We calculate the credits required to offset the ecological impacts of urban and other developments where there would be a loss of biodiversity. We also assist landowners in entering BioBanking Agreements who wish to BioBank their land.
We work in accordance with current legislative requirements including:
- the Framework for Biodiversity Assessment (FBA);
- the Biobanking Assessment Methodology 2014 (BBAM);
- the Biodiversity Certification Assessment Methodology (BCAM); and
- the EPBC Act Environmental Offsets Policy and offsets assessment guide.
What is BioBanking ?
BioBanking is a market-based scheme that provides a streamlined biodiversity assessment process for development, a rigorous and credible offsetting scheme as well as an opportunity for rural landowners to generate income by managing land for conservation.
BioBanking enables ‘biodiversity credits’ to be generated by landowners and developers who commit to enhance and protect biodiversity values on their land through a biobanking agreement. These credits can then be sold, generating funds for the management of the site. Credits can be used to counterbalance (or offset) the impacts on biodiversity values that are likely to occur as a result of development. The credits can also be sold to those seeking to invest in conservation outcomes, including philanthropic organisations and government. (Source-OEH Website)
